Project Description:
Aarogya Kendra (a health Center) named after a great freedom fighter 'Vastaad Lahuji Salve' caters to the slum dwellers, in the field of Education, health, training program in developing skills in various trades. The center runs variety of courses training people of different age groups from slums in the field of computer, small saving schemes for women, primary education, health and hygiene etc. The premises also have a fulltime dispensary with an accommodation for residing doctor. The building design nominated for the tenth cycle of Aga Khan Awards, is very unique in its architectural language depicting the personality of the freedom fighter. It is expressed effectively through its form, the exposed bricks masonry, the form finish concrete with graphics embedded in it. The users, the slum dwellers find it user friendly, which was the purpose of such an architectural language.
