Project Description

India has a long and rich tradition of monuments and historically significant structures. They are primarily of two types popular and not well known to a common man. The popular structures are often taken care of in case they are seen deteriorating and in danger. These responsibilities of taking care of prime important monuments by government by Archaeological Survey of India and by the State Archaeology departments. But just due to unmanageable volume of such structures in our country it is practically impossible to take care by an organization or two. There are few NGOs and semi government bodies which are equipped and determined to take care of monuments other than the ones looked after by archaeological departments. One such organization is INTACH which has undertaken several documentation works along with the conservation works in our country. In Aurangabad we have undertaken many conservation works in association with INTACH. Aurangabad is one of the very few places to have many monuments in fairly good conditions though need a serious attention in terms of their stability, decay, vegetation, encroachments etc. Aurangabad has several typologies such as under water supply system called as Neher e Ambari- a unique historical water supply system which till date is working in many parts of the city established 400 years ago. The city also has many mogul gardens, mosques, temples, old traditional houses, river fronts, water reservoirs, traditional art and crafts, caves, fortification walls and gates. We have carried out several works of conservation of gates, fortifications.
